MIFF 2010: Mai mai miracle

24 Jul

A Sweet and lovely film with spectacular animation to rival miyazaki about love, death, play, and the past through the prism of childhood. Some people might have issue with the earnestness (the last line is “everyone is nice”), but it’s worth embracing kiiko and shinkos adventures. Also, its not all sweet: suicide and prostitution also get a look in. though the flashbacks to a millennium previous feel a but clunky, I was sucked in. ***1/2
